Dr. Maria Murphy is a performer, vocal coach, and teacher based in Menahqesk/Saint John, NB. She received her BMus in Voice and Musicology from Dalhousie University in 2010, her Master of Music in Musicology from Rice University in 2012, and her PhD in Musicology, with graduate certificates in Gender, Sexuality & Women’s Studies and Cinema & Media Studies, from the University of Pennsylvania in 2018.

Maria enjoys cultivating a warm and curious learning environment where students can explore music through listening, singing, and experimentation. Her major passions are art song and opera, and she also enjoys musical theatre repertoire and experimenting with voice-processing technology.

By day, Maria is a nonprofit fundraiser and sustainability consultant with Bloom Funding.
